When former convict Joe (Raft) gets a job at a department store, he falls in love with his colleague Helen (Sidney) and, despite the strict rules of their employment, they marry in secret. But when he discovers that Helen has hidden the fact that she is also a former criminal, Joe becomes furious and decides to rob the department store, jeopardizing their relationship. With a screenplay by Virginia Van Upp (The Affair in Trinidad) and Norman Krasna (Fury), and music by the legendary Kurt Weill (The Threepenny Opera), You and Me is a unique blend of crime thriller and romantic comedy that confused audiences' expectations when it was released, but has become a critics' favorite in the decades since.
