* * * * * "One of the finest films Noé has made" – The Guardian

An elderly couple struggles through increasingly restricted and difficult days in a Paris apartment filled to the brim with books and gadgets – memories of a long and active life. The wife (Françoise Lebrun) is a retired psychologist who, after a career spent patching up other people's minds, is horrified to see her own beginning to fragment. Her husband (Dario Argento) is struggling with his book project on the dreamlike qualities of film storytelling and is unwilling or unable to fully comprehend the seriousness of his beloved partner and wife's condition. Their son Stephane (Alex Lutz), who has lived his entire life as a drug addict and relied on his parents' support, (Alex Lutz), who has lived his entire life as a drug addict, relying on his parents' support, now sees the roles reversed and is forced to shoulder his responsibility as the closest relative.

Known as the enfant terrible of French cinema thanks to provocative and daring works such as Irréversible, Enter the Void, andLux Aeterna, Gaspar Noé is perhaps not the first person who comes to mind when talking about emotional, meditative films about aging and death. Gaspar Noé created the project after a severe stroke nearly killed him. After recovering, he became teetotal and began work on Vortex. The film is considered a more mature work and was almost unanimously praised after its screenings in Cannes. But Gaspar Noé has not completely left his desire to experiment behind him. Vortex is told in an ingenious split screen, a visual representation of the growing divide between the main characters.

Horror film legend and director Dario Argento (Suspiria, Trauma) surprises with a powerful and emotionally charged performance in the role of the aging husband. Françoise Lebrun also has a long and distinguished career behind her, primarily as an actress (The Mother and the Whore, The Kidnapping of Michelle Houellebecq). Alex Lutz has recently appeared in films such as Spirou and A Little Bookshop in Paris."The very best performances on film this year" – Hemmabio
