John Cleese plays Brian Stimpson, a dictatorial headmaster with an unhealthy obsession with clocks. Admired for his sense of order, he is appointed chairman of the national headmaster conference. This is to be the greatest day of his life. But the unthinkable happens—he misses the train!

All means are now permitted to get there on time and save his reputation, which marks the start of an increasingly impossible race against time that spirals into car chases, vandalism, and kidnapping.
