Underworld Beauty / Love Letter Limited Edition Blu-Ray
The thief Miyamoto retrieves the diamonds he hid before his arrest and hopes to help his old partner Mihara, who was paralyzed during the heist. Their former boss, the criminal Oyane, offers to mediate with a foreign buyer, but secretly wants the stones for himself. The deal goes awry when armed men show up at the scene. Mihara swallows the diamonds but dies in the chase, leaving a valuable corpse at the police morgue. Miyamoto forms an uneasy alliance with Mihara's wild sister Akiko to keep the gems away from gangsters, cops, and even Akiko's greedy boyfriend. In this wildly inventive early noir, Seijun Suzuki (Branded to Kill, Tattooed Life) playfully subverts the genre's conventions and gender stereotypes.
