Ugetsu 4K Ultra HD + Blu-Ray
When he made Ugetsu, Kenji Mizoguchi was already one of the elder statesmen of Japanese cinema, highly regarded by Akira Kurosawa and other directors of a younger generation. And with this exquisite ghost story, a fatalistic wartime tragedy based on stories by Akinari Ueda and Guy de Maupassant, he created a cornerstone of his art, where his long takes and sweeping camera guide the viewer through a delirious tale of two villagers whose pursuit of fame and fortune leads them far away from their loyal wives. Ugetsu moves between the earthly and the otherworldly, revealing essential truths about the ravages of war, the plight of women, and the pride of men.
