Shinji Soma's beloved cult film Typhoon Club is widely regarded as the director's groundbreaking film and is considered one of the best Japanese films ever made.

Typhoon Club is a caustic look into the lives of disaffected high school students on the cusp of adulthood and features a lively cast of young talents, including idol Youki Kudoh (The Crazy Family, Mystery Train), who are faced with existential intrigues, burgeoning sexuality, and increasing social tensions in the days before a typhoon arrives. The group is stranded in their school building when the storm hits and undergoes an awakening as they dispel all uncertainties, fears, and desires amid the storm's swell.
