They Live (Blu-ray)
JOHN CARPENTER'S CULT FILM – DIGITALLY RESTORED AND FOR THE FIRST TIME ON John Nada makes a frightening discovery when he accidentally comes across a pair of strange glasses. When he puts them on, he sees what our world really looks like. Hope
He finds a city cluttered with commands on giant billboards. SOUND! DON'T THINK! WATCH TV! CONSUME! But most frightening is that many of the people he meets have distorted faces. They don't look like ordinary people. They don't even look like they're from this world...
When THEY LIVE premiered in 1988, it was a box office flop, but since then its popularity has skyrocketed. Perhaps the time was not yet ripe for this clever combination of sci-fi,
action, and social satire, in which aliens attempt to enslave humanity under the yoke of unbridled capitalism? ”With THEY LIVE, I'm giving Reagan the finger," Carpenter said at the time.
But with its frightening prediction of a world infected by increased injustice, spy drones, and media manipulation, it is even more relevant today. The film is now being released on Blu-ray for the first time, digitally restored in 4K with superior sound and image quality.
