Carol Reed's acclaimed British noir film THE THIRD MAN is widely considered "the best British film ever made." This rightly acclaimed classic, with a brilliant screenplay by Graham Greene and Anton Karas' atmospheric theme music, is further enhanced by Robert Krasker's Oscar®-winning cinematography and Orson Welles in one of his most iconic film roles.

 

 

Holly Martins (Joseph Cotten, Citizen Kane), a naive writer of Western novels, arrives in Vienna to meet his old friend Harry Lime (the incomparable Orson Welles), but discovers that Lime has apparently died in a suspicious accident. Martins, who is too curious for his own good, hears conflicting accounts of the circumstances surrounding Lime's death, and when the witnesses disappear, he himself is hunted by unknown assailants. Things are complicated by the sarcastic Major Calloway (Trevor Howard, Brief Encounter), commander of the British forces, and Lime's lover, theater actress Anna Schmidt (Alida Valli). Will Martin's curiosity lead him to discover things about his old friend that he would rather not know?
