Jean Rollin's third feature film, 1971's The Shiver of the Vampires (Le Frisson des vampires), established themes and visual motifs that he would return to throughout his career, mixing horror, eroticism, fairy tales, and surrealism to create his unique fantasy films.

When the young newlyweds arrive at a dilapidated castle for their honeymoon, they experience a series of surreal and ominous encounters and realize that they are prey for the vampires who live there...

With performances by Sandra Julien (I Am Frigid... Why?) and Marie-Pierre Castel (Lips of Blood), stunning cinematography by Rollins' regular collaborator Jean-Jacques Renon, and exciting jazz-rock music by Acanthus, The Shiver of the Vampires is considered one of Rollins' best films.
