The Lukas Moodysson Collection Blu-ray

Sale price1 339 kr

Ever since his debut was hailed as "a young master's first masterpiece" by none other than Ingmar Bergman, director Lukas Moodysson has been internationally acclaimed as one of Sweden's greatest filmmaking talents, who both delights and amazes audiences in equal measure.

Moodysson's first film, Fucking Ämål (released abroad as Show Me Love), is about the awkward small-town girl Agnes and her infatuation with her popular classmate Elin, which unexpectedly blossoms into a real romance. The film was quickly hailed as a new touchstone for queer cinema and one of the most authentic portrayals of youthful relationships on film. He quickly followed up with the bittersweet, satirical film Together, set in the 1970s, in which the residents of a commune try to reconcile their ideals with their heart's desires.

After making a name for himself as the new master of tragicomic feel-good humanism, Moodysson suddenly frustrated expectations with a trio of astonishingly confrontational works: The eerily bleak Lilya 4-ever, based on a true story about a Russian girl sold into sex slavery in Sweden; the gritty and semi-improvised A Hole in My Heart, which depicts the turbulent (un)recording of an amateur porn video in a small apartment; and the avant-garde Container, narrated in its English version by Jena Malone (Donnie Darko).

After making his English-language mainstream debut with the expansive Mammoth, starring Gael García Bernal and Michelle Williams, Moodysson returned to his roots with We Are the Best! (based on a graphic novel by his wife and "consigliere" Coco), the charming and funny story of three schoolgirls who start a punk band in Stockholm in the early 1980s.

Moodysson's eclectic filmography can now be appreciated as the work of a unique filmmaker, as uncompromising and unashamedly political as it is sharply observant, deeply felt, and often funny.
