The Landlord Limited Edition Blu-Ray
In Brooklyn in the 1970s, gentrification has already begun to take hold in the predominantly black neighborhood of Park Slope. The spoiled financier Elgar Enders (Beau Bridges) buys an apartment building in the area with the intention of evicting the tenants and building himself a bachelor pad. But when he moves in and unexpectedly befriends the residents, he decides to let them stay and become their landlord. He rebels against his wealthy, racist family and begins affairs with two black women, causing a stir both at the country clubs and in the ghetto houses of Park Slope. This scandalous satire is Hal Ashby's (Harold and Maude) directorial debut, with a brilliant screenplay by Bill Gunn (Ganja & Hess) and stunning cinematography by Gordon Willis (The Godfather). The Landlord is a shocking and uncompromising look at race relations far ahead of its time, and a unique and important work in the annals of American comedy cinema.
