The Hunger Games is based on Suzanne Collins' best-selling novel of the same name, about a harrowing future that is cruel, violent, deceitful, and really only about one thing—keeping the people in check.

Every year, the Hunger Games are broadcast live as one of the biggest media events. From each district, two young people between the ages of twelve and eighteen are selected by lottery to participate in the competition. They are immediately sent to the capital, where they are styled, trained, and shown off in live interviews, before participating in the game where there can only be one winner—the one who survives.

Katniss Everdeen is fourteen years old. She loves her little sister Prim more than anything else and tries to protect her from everything terrible in District Twelve, but she has no protection against the Hunger Games. When Prim's name is drawn in the lottery, Katniss sees no other way out than to take Prim's place in the games...

Katniss thought that winning the Hunger Games would mean success, happiness, and fame, but instead it would only lead to fear.
