The Gift Limited Edition 4K UHD bluray
THE ONLY WITNESS TO THE CRIME WASN'T EVEN THERE
Director Sam Raimi combined the eerie undertones of his early works with his newly discovered talent for handling powerful drama in the supernatural thriller The Gift, in which he drew nuanced performances from a star-studded ensemble to bring to life a compelling script by Billy Bob Thornton and Tom Epperson (One False Move).
In rural Georgia, recently widowed psychic Annie Wilson (Cate Blanchett) works as a tarot reader to support her young family. When she is introduced to her son's kind-hearted school principal (Greg Kinnear) and his society fiancée (Katie Holmes), Annie has a cruel premonition of what is to come. When her violent vision becomes reality, all eyes turn to Annie, and she has no choice but to use her clairvoyant abilities to find the culprit herself. Could it be the violent husband (Keanu Reeves) of one of Annie's regular customers (Hilary Swank)? Or the nervous mechanic (Giovanni Ribisi) whose longing for friendship hides an uncontrollable rage? Or is there another terrible secret hiding in plain sight?
The Gift, made just before a certain spider-throwing creature finally catapulted Raimi from cult status to Hollywood's A-list, is an underrated but important part of his filmography that is ripe for re-evaluation with this brand new 4K remaster.
