The Count Yorga Collection Blu-Ray
In the late 1960s, the boom in Gothic horror films in the Old World began to wane as new threats such as the Vietnam War emerged. In response, American filmmakers brought horror films from the past into the present, and classic movie monsters packed their bags and headed for the New World.
Count Yorga, Vampire was one of the first films to successfully transfer the classic vampire, cloak and all, to a modern setting when the count – played unforgettably by Robert Quarry – arrives in the United States and settles in a mansion in Southern California with his mysterious "brides". The film became a favorite at drive-in theaters from the moment it was released, and a sequel soon followed. The Return of Count Yorga ups the ante and shows the sarcastic count on the streets of San Francisco, targeting an orphanage as a potential source of nourishment.
Director Bob Kelljan (Scream Blacula Scream) delivers a double dose of classic cult cinema that mixes thrills, suspense, style, and suspense with a deliberate humor that revels in the genre's external attributes. The Count Yorga Collection, presented in stunning restorations by Arrow Films from scans of the original negative, is a full-blooded feast to die for!
