Eva leaves her brilliant career as a doctor to study medical history at a remote university. She wants to focus on understanding her own nature, her body, her illness, and her fate. There she finds The Book of Vision, Johan Anmuth's 18th-century treatise on the conflict between the new rationalism and animism's ancient trust in nature. Anmuth's method consisted of listening to his patients' hopes, fears, and dreams, rather than adhering to traditional science. Eva allows herself to be inspired and engrossed by all these stories and visions and begins to explore the differences between the present, the past, and the future. Only what you desire is real, not just what actually happens. Opened Critics' Week at the Venice Film Festival 2020, official competition at the Sitges Film Festival.
