Svenska 1960-talshöjdare (6-disc) (DVD)

Sale price459 kr

The 1960s are one of the most interesting periods in Swedish film history. It was then that Harry Schein pushed through the creation of the Swedish Film Institute and our first real film school. It was then that Bo Widerberg criticized Swedish cinema in his debate book Visionen i svensk film (The Vision in Swedish Cinema) and called his object of hatred, Ingmar Bergman, "the most boring person in the world." And that was when the newly minted Swedish directors left the film studio and, like the heroes of the French New Wave, took their cameras out onto the streets to tell stories about real people.

Studio S is proud to present six films by three 1960s directors who didn't just stir the simmering pot—they brought it to a boil!

Love 65 (1965)

A very personal love film by Bo Widerberg. The plot revolves around a film director who has succeeded in his career but has not found harmony. Now he experiences a different kind of love. Starring Keve Hjelm, Inger Taube, and Evabritt Strandberg.

Heja Roland! (1966)p>

Bo Widerberg's only comedy is a satire on the advertising industry, in which the young writer Roland takes a job at an advertising agency where he is tasked with conducting market research among young people. Starring Thommy Berggren, Mona Malm, and Ulf Palme. The Hunt (1965)p>

Gamlin's ice-cold drama about a group of hunters tracking down a young criminal in the mountains of Jämtland was awarded a Silver Bear in Berlin, among other prizes. Mauritz Edström of DN wrote that it was "the most important thing to happen to Swedish cinema since Bergman." Starring Halvar Björk and Lars Passgård.

Badarna (1968)

Gamlin's lush story is about marginalized people in a depopulated village in Jämtland, where a few uncertain jobs remain in the sawmill, the ironworks, and the alcohol treatment center. Starring Ingrid Thulin, Halvar Björk, Gunilla Olsson, and Björn Gustafson.

Myten (1966)

Harry, a loner, is on a collision course with social workers, police officers, and railway guards, which culminates when he steals a flower in Kungsan. Aftonbladet thought that Halldoff made "a break from Swedish film conventions as convincing as Widerberg." With Per Myrberg, Evabritt Strandberg, and Per Oscarsson.(1967)

In Janne Halldoff's second feature film, a 25-year-old single mother is seduced by a criminal youth gang that drinks, smokes, fights, and steals cars. Dagens Nyheter wrote that it was "holy war over the generation gaps accentuated by the teenage revolution." With Inger Taube, Lars Hansson, and Stig Törnblom. BONUS MATERIAL Yngve Gamlin's nature parodies Sävdykaren (The Diver, 1958), Hjolbänningar (Wheelbarrowers, 1961), The Flata Monster (1962), and Allt är nära fastän långt ifrån (1963), Janne Halldoff's short films Håltimme (1965) and Nilsson (1965), the short documentary Widerberg 65 (1965), clips from the TV archives, trailers, and more.
