Sven Klangs kvintett (DVD)
1958. In a small town in Skåne, the only dance band in the area gathers to rehearse. They call themselves Sven Klang's Quintet, even though there are only four of them. Sven is the oldest, a car salesman by profession and leader of the orchestra, which he controls with flattery, lies, and threats. Now Sven has promised that they will become a real quintet and has hired saxophonist Lasse, who has played with the greats of jazz in Stockholm. It soon becomes apparent that Lasse is a musical genius and ready to aim high, which inspires the younger members of the band to dream of something greater than Sven's talk of "give the rednecks what the rednecks want." A clash between Lasse and Sven is inevitable. One of them must go!
SVEN KLANGS KVINTETT is based on a play by the musical theater group Oktober. The film was one of the big surprises of the 1970s, attracting 285,000 cinema-goers and winning the Guldbagge jury's special prize and the Swedish Film Critics Association's prize forFilm of the Year in 1976, with more than twice as many votes as The Man on the Roof. Many of the scenes were filmed in Högana. AB **** "DELIGHTFUL!" Exp **** "THE LAST NIGHT WITH SOMETHING GENUINELY SWEDISH. A FULL-BLOWN FILM!” KvP
