Smoke Sauna Sisterhood follows a group of women who bathe in the sauna all year round. We see their preparations and rituals with heated stones, smoke and leaf whisks, and ice baths in winter. In the sauna, they share their experiences and stories about motherhood, relationships, and unwanted dick pics. There are strong emotions, laughter, and tears in this poetic documentary that will stay with you for a long time.

The traditional smoke sauna from Võromaa in Estonia is on UNESCO's World Heritage List. In Smoke Sauna Sisterhood, director Anna Hints takes us to a smoke sauna where a group of women regularly bathe together. This intimate space is a safe place where women meet and can talk about themselves and each other. The women's conversations during the sauna are deeply moving and take the viewer's breath away. With an authentic voice rooted in her own background, filmmaker Anna Hintz has created a compelling portrait of what it means to exist in a woman's body. Here, women are shown as they are, with strong emotional authenticity and great empathy.

Smoke Sauna Sisterhood is filmed in a style reminiscent of paintings by Vermeer or Rembrandt, with a camera that moves organically and never intrusively. The moments captured are as fleeting as the smoke in the sauna.
