Shawscope Volume Four Limited Edition Blu-Ray
LONG AGO, IN A FILM STUDIO NEAR CLEARWATER BAY...
When special effects-driven horror and science fiction films dominated the global cinema market in the 1970s, Hong Kong's most powerful film studio, Shaw Brothers, not only followed suit, but went one step further!
One of Shaw's most beloved cult classics, Hua Shan's tokusatsu tribute Super Inframan, stars Danny Lee (The Killer) as the high-kicking superhero who defends the planet against a demon queen and her legion of underground mutant minions. Lee also plays a monster vigilante who dispenses cruel justice in Ho Meng-hua's eerie Oily Maniac and the prince who gains magical powers in Pao Hsueh-li's fantastic wuxia Battle Wizard. Director Ho then treats us to a double dose of occult chaos with Black Magic and its sequel, in which Ti Lung battles evil voodoo doctors with the power to cast spells and raise the dead. Four more doses of madness follow from Kuei Chih-hung in the form of Bewitched and the Hex trilogy, an unforgettable quadruple serving of possession and witchcraft that preceded his famous mind-bending classic The Boxer's Omen.his famous mind-bending classic The Boxer's Omen.
Master director Chor Yuen adds a healthy dose of horror to his characteristic wuxia mystery style in Bat Without Wings, in which a young swordsman must stop a mad martial arts master who has become a serial killer and commits perverse acts of violence. Hua Shan returns with Bloody Parrot, a strikingly vivid horror fantasy about two swordsmen who hunt a demon that offers to grant wishes, but leaves a chaotic trail of destruction in its wake. In Lau Kar-wing's kung fu jiangshi comedy The Fake Ghost Catchers, two con artists are forced to take on ghosts from the underworld, while Tang Tak-cheung's hair-raising wuxia fantasy Demon of the Lute must be seen to be believed. Yang Chuen's gruesome splatter fest Seeding of a Ghost is about a taxi driver who hires a necromancer to avenge his wife's murder, with repulsive results. Hua Shan returns with Portrait in Crystal, an imaginative tale of a murderous swordswoman who is brought to life through a crystal sculpture. Last but not least, Alex Cheung's Twinkle Twinkle Little Star is a comedy beyond the ordinary, in which city girl Cherie Chung is kidnapped by aliens and taken to a galaxy far, far away...
