Rampo Noir Limited Edition Bllu-Ray
In Mars' Canal, by music video director and visual artist Suguru Takeuchi, a lonely man encounters the other side of his psyche beyond the reflective surface of a circular pond in a desolate landscape. Akio Jissoji (This Transient Life, Mandala), Japanese auteur of the New Wave and prolific director of the Ultraman series, uses his distinctive stylistic flair in his tale of a mad mirror maker, Mirror Hell. Caterpillar shows cult director Hisayasu Sato (The Bedroom, Naked Blood) at his most grotesque in his portrait of a damaged war veteran who returns from the front line as little more than a bloody torso, unable to defend himself against his embittered wife's increasingly perverted whims. Finally, a famous actress is subjected to the obsessive attention of her limousine driver in Crawling Bugs, the directorial debut of internationally acclaimed manga artist Atsushi Kaneko (Bambi and Her Pink Gun).
Rampo Noir is produced by the same team behind Ichi the Killer and Uzumaki, and with some of Japan's biggest stars in the cast, including Tadanobu Asano (Maboroshi, Silence) and Ryuhei Matsuda (Blue Spring, Gohatto), the film is a stylistic tour-de-force that vividly evokes the "erotically grotesque" worlds created by Japan's pioneering horror and mystery storytellers.
