"THE FUNNIEST SWEDISH FILM EVER” Kvällsposten
”Art is a lie that shows reality”. This quote from Picasso opens Hasse & Tages' comedy, in which they have concocted a hilariously funny story about the artist's life. The film is particularly notable for its bizarre dialogue, which is a hodgepodge of ten different languages, and for its visual tricks, which are still impressive today.
The biggest laughs came from Gösta Ekman's desperate "floor swimming" to explain the word "water," Lena Nymans' Finnish song (actually a recipe), Hasse Alfredson's "Halvliter" (Half-liter) salute, Rolv Wesenlund as an electric chair repairman, the Russian fish ballet, and Magnus Härenstam and Sune Mangs as the wooden brothers Hitler and Churchill.
With over 1.5 million viewers, this was Hasse & Tage's second biggest box office hit. Less fun is the fact that it was their last film together behind the camera.
