Best Foreign Language Film
In a sleepy coastal town in southern France, young Mellie is pursued in the rain by a strange man. After being brutally raped, Mellie manages to get hold of a rifle and shoots her attacker, whom she then dumps from a cliff into the sea. Neither the police nor her husband find out anything. Shortly after the body washes ashore, a mysterious American appears in Mellie's life and begins asking uncomfortable questions. It seems as if he knows all the details of the incident. Who is he? And what does he want?
RIDER ON THE RAIN is one of Bronson's lesser-known films (to Swedish audiences), but according to many, one of his best! Including Bronson himself. The film is directed by the legendary René Clément (The Hot Sun and Oscar-winning To Each His Own) and won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film in 1971. It was filmed in both English and French and was a huge box office success in France. The third biggest of the year!
