Paradiset DVD
Pointed sobriety propaganda directed by Sweden's most banned director - Arne Ragneborn. Factory worker and southern boy Bertil has been in rehab, but manages to get his old job back. He swears to his wife that he will never drink again. At the same time, Bertil's boss Rudolf is advised by his Östermalm doctor to stop drinking at work. In parallel, we follow Bertil and Rudolf's uneven struggle against the alcohol demon. Rudolf messes up a board meeting and drives drunk, hitting a woman. Bertil hangs out at the Paradiset bar and gets drunk. Rudolf fires Bertil, but then loses his own job. How will it end? Can the doctors and the Länkarna save the two alcoholics?
Paradiset is a remake of the Danish film Café Paradis (1950), and is actor Arne Ragneborn's third film as a director. He made a total of five feature films, all with similar themes - desperate youth, alcoholism, violence, and crime. Several of them were initially banned, but were released after extensive editing. Paradiset has long been listed by the Swedish Film Institute as one of many lost Swedish sound films. Until now, that is, when Klubb Super 8 managed to locate a well-preserved screening copy from a private film collection.
