Papphammar's success took off in 1980 when the man in the gray overcoat who does whatever he feels like suddenly stumbled into SVT, completely unannounced, without being on the schedule. People laughed and wanted to see more, and more there was, but the problem was that it was impossible to know when he would show up next. Most people missed a lot of episodes. The solution was that Gösta & Co. edited all the episodes into a feature film. It was a success! In fact, it attracted 320,000 cinema-goers! But what many people forget is that the character Papphammar was not entirely new. He appeared on SVT as early as 1978 in the series "Herr och fru Papphammar" with Gösta and Lena Söderblom, which had never been shown anywhere other than on TV—until now!
