When Harry Baldwin (Ray Milland, The Lost Weekend) takes his family on a fishing trip, their vacation is brutally interrupted when a catastrophic nuclear war breaks out and destroys their suburban home in Los Angeles. What remains of the UN announces on the radio that society has collapsed, and the Baldwins realize that they must quickly learn to navigate this new "year zero" and do whatever it takes to survive. Milland plays the lead role alongside teen idol Frankie Avalon and also directs this dark and visceral apocalyptic thriller, described as "the most expressive nightmare of the Cold War" (Village Voice).
