Mudbound - Criterion Collection Blu-Ray
In the Mississippi Delta in the 1940s, two farming families come together—one of white landowners and one of black sharecroppers by the impersonal land they share, and they struggle to survive amid the upheavals of World War II and the toxic hatred of the Jim Crow South. Each family sends a young man off to war, and when they return home, scarred, and find a common bond, the community is torn apart. Director Dee Rees and screenwriter Virgil Williams have created a unique American tragedy, where bitter historical facts take on a timeless weight. Mudbound is a searing humanistic study of legacy based on Hillary Jordan's novel, with gritty performances from her ensemble—including Carey Mulligan, Mary J. Blige, Jason Mitchell, Rob Morgan, Garrett Hedlund, Jason Clarke, and Jonathan Banks—and backed by Rachel Morrison's darkly polished cinematography.
