Motel Destino &is a colorful film noir in which a young man, hunted by a mafia boss, finds both shelter and work at a shady sex motel in a deserted seaside resort in northeastern Brazil. He begins a passionate affair with the manageress, and when her jealous husband suspects something is amiss, all hell breaks loose. To the sound of constant moaning from the hotel guests' lovemaking, a hot, hard and very uncomfortable love triangle unfolds.Brazilian director Karim Aïnouz offers a raw but sensual atmosphere of melancholy and violence. Stunning photography by the legendary and Silver Bear-winning Hélène Louvart (Agnes' Beaches, The Smell of Us,Chimären) greatly enhances the experience. The motel itself becomes a mysterious place pulsating with sound, color, and movement, where you are caught in an eternal now. The film competed for the Palme d'Or and Queer Palm at Cannes in 2024.
