Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) is just two weeks away from completing a long, lonely contract mining Earth's primary energy source, Helium-3, on the dark side of the moon. Due to a problem with the communications satellite, Sam's only companion on this journey is Gerty (voiced by Kevin Spacey), the base's unsophisticated computer and odd recorded messages sent home. As his contract nears its end, Sam begins to suffer from debilitating headaches and vivid hallucinations, leading to a near-fatal accident in a lunar rover. But while recovering at base, he makes a shocking discovery: a younger version of himself has arrived to fulfill the same contract Sam started all along. Is the other Sam just another hallucination, or something far more sinister?
