Who Wants to Kill Jessie (aka Kdo Chce Zabit Jessii) Blu-Ray
From the director of Three Wishes for Cinderella comes Václav Vorlíček's Who Wants to Kill Jessie? A delightfully crazy, absurdly comical fantasy film from 1966 that is unlike anything else in the Czech New Wave – and which anticipates the DC and Marvel comic book franchises by several decades.
A scientist creates a serum to calm the dreams of restless cows, but tests it on her husband, who has been dreaming about the adventures of comic book heroine Jessie. Disaster strikes when the drug causes the characters from her husband's dreams to manifest themselves in the real world...
Who Wants to Kill Jessie? is co-written by Milos Macourek (Happy End) and is a crazy original gem. The film is bursting with inventiveness and wild ideas, boldly subverting the new superhero genre while offering a subtle but healthy dose of satire aimed at communist oppressors.
