Based on an original story by Katsura Morimura, Nobuhiko Obayashi

(director of the cult classic House) brings us this sweet tale of growing up and finding oneself.

After the sudden death of her father, a Japanese high school girl (played by Tomoyo Harada from Obayashi's The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) travels to New Caledonia, an archipelago in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, to search for the place in the film's title, which they had agreed to visit together. Through her encounters with Japanese emigrants and the local population, she learns where the real island closest to heaven is located.
