BIRD is the long-awaited return to fiction filmmaking from Oscar winner Andrea Arnold (American Honey, Fish Tank) and is a tender, poignant, and extraordinarily surprising coming-of-age story about marginalized lives on the fringes of modern society. Twelve-year-old Bailey (the astonishing newcomer Nykiya Adams) lives with her devoted but chaotic single father Bug (Barry Keoghan, Saltburn) and her headstrong brother Hunter in a squat in Gravesend in northern Kent. Bailey is approaching puberty and seeking attention and adventure, and her fractured home life is transformed when she meets Bird (Franz Rogowski, Passages), a mysterious stranger who is on a journey of his own. Arnold's latest film is a wonderful portrait of the transition from childhood to adolescence, still rooted in her typically empathetic social realism and moving to the wildly poetic rhythm of her own drum.
