"American Gangster" tells the true success story of Frank Lucas, a petty thief from Harlem who rises through the gangster hierarchy in the 1970s and builds a criminal empire. His name reaches cult status before he is finally stopped by a lone cop whose only motivation is to clean up the streets. However, hard-boiled cop Richie Roberts is determined to find Lucas and bring him to justice. Roberts' hunt for Lucas develops into a battle of wits between two men on opposite sides of the law.
