In the difficult days following 9/11, a U.S. special forces unit—the Green Berets—led by Captain Mitch Nelson, is selected to be the first American unit sent to Afghanistan on an extremely dangerous mission. Once in the inaccessible mountains, they must convince the Northern Alliance warlord, General Dostum, to join forces with them to fight their common enemy: the Taliban and their al-Qaeda allies. In addition to overcoming mutual distrust and significant cultural differences, the Americans, who are accustomed to state-of-the-art warfare, had to adopt the primitive tactics of the Afghan cavalry. And despite the uncomfortable conditions, the new allies face an overwhelming difficulty: outnumbered and outgunned, and a ruthless enemy that takes no prisoners.
