In Wings of Desire, the angel Damiel fell in love with the trapeze artist Marion and became a mortal. His friend Cassiel was left alone in Berlin, which had now become a unified city after the fall of the Wall. One day, Cassiel witnesses a little girl losing her balance on a balcony ten stories up. The moment he intervenes to save her, he too is transformed into a human being, with all that that entails.

Six years after Wim Wenders' beloved Wings of Desire, this sequel premiered and won the Grand Prix at Cannes. Bruno Ganz, Otto Sander, Peter Falk, and Solveig Dommartin reprise their roles from the previous film. New additions to the cast include Nastassja Kinski, Willem Dafoe (as a fallen Lucifer), Horst Buchholz, rock legend Lou Reed, and... former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev!
