With his detailed and imaginative drawings, the enormously prolific artist Hans Arnold (1925-2010) filled the Swedish consciousness with horror, sex, fairy tales, and surrealism.

Hans Arnold was the subtle visual genius behind countless book illustrations, such as Astrid Lindgren's "Allrakäraste syster" (My Dearest Sister), album covers such as ABBA's iconic "Greatest Hits," animated films and TV vignettes, opera, theater, dance, and TV set designs, his own books, and, not least, the hugely popular Veckans Chock illustrations in Veckorevyn magazine from 1954 to 1979.

Hans Arnold - Penselns Häxmästare (Hans Arnold - Master of the Brush) is a documentary about his work and life, a success story about how an officer's son from a small medieval village in Switzerland became a "folkhem" illustrator in Sweden. Filmmaker Micke Engström followed Hans Arnold during what would become his last four years of life and, after 12 years of work, can now tell Arnold's life story in a moving and ingenious interweaving of interviews, archive material, and Arnold's own art. Many have already called the film a masterpiece!
