After gathering their forces in the Mediterranean, the Earth Alliance and Orb Union launch a second attack on Minerva, and this time even Archangel's intervention cannot stop the fighting. While Shinn unleashes his fury on the Orb fleet, Kira and Athrun face each other in battle, and one of these lifelong friends falls in defeat.

Back in PLANT's homeland, Chairman Durandal reflects on his past and contemplates his plans for the future... Plans that will require the removal of supporting elements such as Lacus and the Archangel's crew.

After the battle, Shinn makes a fateful decision. Stella, the enemy pilot he once promised to protect, is now a prisoner aboard the Minerva. Stella's physical condition is rapidly deteriorating, and Shinn must sacrifice everything he believes in to save her life.
