In the 1980s, makeup artists became stars and pushed the boundaries of what could be shown on the silver screen, while audiences around the world reacted with shock and delight. In F/X: Murder by Illusion, Rollie Tyler (Bryan Brown) is a special effects genius who is contacted by the Department of Justice to fake the death of a gangster who is about to become evidence for the state. But all is not as it seems. Now someone is trying to kill Rollie, and the grumpy police officer Leo McCarthy (Brian Dennehy) suspects him of murder. Rollie cannot turn to the police and must flee, relying only on his intelligence and expertise in special effects to save him. F/X was a smash hit, and a sequel was inevitable. In F/X 2: The Deadly Art of Illusion, directed by Australian star director Richard Franklin (Psycho II), Rollie is persuaded, against his better judgment, to once again use his expertise on the silver screen, this time to help catch a killer as part of a police operation in New York. When lightning strikes twice and things go wrong, Rollie, his girlfriend Kim (Rachel Ticotin), and her young son Chris are thrown into danger; only with Leo's help can Rollie keep them safe.
