A DREAM OF FREEDOM &is inspired by the so-called Nyköping drama in 1966, when the police intervened against two criminals, Clark Olofsson and Gunnar Norgren, which resulted in the latter shooting and killing a police officer. Jan Halldoff is responsible for the direction and he wrote the script together with Bengt Forslund, who was nominated for an Oscar for The Emigrants.
