El Vampiro - Two Bloodsucking Tales from Mexico Limited Edition Blu-Ray
El Vampiro: Two Bloodsucking Tales from Mexico brings together a pair of atmospheric and terrifying classics from Mexican Gothic cinema, directed by Fernando Méndez (Black Pit of Dr. M) and starring Ariadne Welter (The Panther Women), Abel Salazar (The Curse of the Crying Woman), and, in a star-studded role, Germán Robles (The Brainiac) in the lead roles.
In The Vampire (El vampiro), the beautiful, grieving Marta (Welter) travels with Enrique (Salazar) to visit her sick aunt in her family home. There, the mysterious neighbor Duval (Robles) offers to buy the family's dilapidated hacienda. However, Duval is in fact Count Karol de Lavud, a vampire whose goal is to drain Marta of her blood and revive his buried brother. In the sequel, The Vampire's Coffin (El ataúd del vampiro), grave robbers take Lavud's corpse to Enrique's hospital, where Marta now works as a nurse. Once revived, Lavud sets in motion his bloody plan to make Marta his bride.
The Vampire's unique Mexican interpretation of vampire mythology preceded Hammer Films' Dracula by a year and was the first film to give its antagonist long fangs, and its success sparked Mexico's horror boom. The films have been restored from the original negatives and are now finally receiving their Blu-ray world premieres in this individually numbered Limited Edition two-disc set, complete with new and archived bonus features and a fully illustrated 80-page book.p>
