Det händer i natt was the first Swedish film to be completely banned by the film censors since 1917. It was only released after completely new scenes were filmed with a frame story in which the story unfolds as a dream, the film was re-edited into a comedy, and the title was changed to Aldrig i livet (Never in My Life). This DVD release includes both versions: the hard-hitting gangster thriller and the light-hearted comedy. Director Arne Ragneborn's films were all banned due to violence, sex, and drugs, only to be released after extensive editing. The film was exported in its original version to several countries, including Denmark and the United States. In Sweden, the censors also intervened against the trailer for Aldrig i livet.
