Love, jealousy, music, and drugs in a violent youth-on-the-slide thriller, set in the legendary Nalen in Stockholm. Lars Ekborg is the brutal bouncer "Doggen" who tries to win back the singer Sonja. Sonja sings at a dance hall owned by the much older Viktor. He is very fond of Sonja. Viktor's wife Ria is jealous of the close relationship between Sonja and Viktor. Sonja's ex, the brutal Doggen, is released from prison and demands to have Sonja back. She desperately begs him to disappear. Despite the supervisor's attempts to create an orderly life for him, Doggen soon falls back into crime. He tries to break into the dance hall, but is caught red-handed by Viktor. Doggen becomes increasingly aggressive and suspicious of Sonja and Viktor, which has disastrous consequences.

As the plot unfolds, life at the dance hall continues with performances by artists, jitterbug dancing, beauty contests, and a visit from the Salvation Army. Among others, Arne Domnérus' orchestra and Gunnar "Siljabloo" Nilsson perform.
