Dansbandsveckan DVD
Dansbandsveckan gives us the whole story behind the immensely popular event that draws dance lovers to Malung every year. Here we learn everything about what happens before, during, and after. How did this come about? We get to meet all the enthusiasts in Dalarna who make it possible to hold an event with over 50,000 people in a small town. Visitors tell their stories about why they make the pilgrimage to Malung and the dance floors in Orrskogen are packed. Of course, we also meet some of the 82 dance bands that play during the event. The documentary also provides insight into the grand Guldklaven Gala and the handmade awards that are made well in advance. We also go behind the scenes, where a lot of fun things happen. Director Matz Eklund has previously portrayed dance band culture in Vill du dansa? (Do You Want to Dance?), about and featuring the band Larz Kristerz. He has also made the film Dansbandstjejer (Dance Band Girls), which portrays singers Sandra Estberg (Martinez), Erica Sjöstrom (Drifters), and Carolina Skaarup Lagerborg (Callinaz).
InDansbandsveckan (Dance Band Week), Eklund focuses on Sweden's largest festival in the genre. Swedish Dance Band Week attracts musicians, music lovers, dancers, and dance teachers to Malung in Dalarna for a couple of intense summer days each year. The festival is a cherished tradition in the town, where Dansbandsveckan has been held in its current form since the mid-1980s.
