Cry, the Beloved Country is the BAFTA-nominated film adaptation of Alan Paton's acclaimed novel. Black pastor Stephen Kumalo (Canada Lee) lives a quiet life as a congregation pastor in rural South Africa. When his son, Absalom, leaves the small valley where he grew up for the bright lights of the city, he disappears. After several months of silence, the pastor sets out to look for him and comes face to face with the misery and poverty of Johannesburg's slums. Reverend Msimangu (Sidney Poitier) is a young priest who joins him in his search, but neither of them is prepared for what they will discover.
