”One cannot help but be completely absorbed by this beautiful fantasy” – Screen Daily
When Doctor Coppelius arrives in the village, people are transformed. The doctor promises perfect beauty. But at a very high price. Of course, the mustachioed charmer has a secret agenda. To strip everyone of their humanity and give it to his greatest creation: the robot woman Coppelia. Soon, only the young girl Svanhilda stands between him and total success. Join Svanhilda, Franz, and their friends on a fantastic adventure to save their happy little town.
FANTASTIC DANCING IN A FAIRYTALE ADVENTURE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY. The story is told entirely without dialogue, so everyone can follow along. Here we get animation and dance in beautiful harmony, a modern version of the ballet from 1870, which in turn was based on E.T.A. Hoffmann's classic epistolary novel The Sandman. Ted Brandsen from the Dutch National Ballet is responsible for the choreography and the music is written by Maurizio Malagnini. In the lead role we see Michaela DePrince as Svanhilda. DePrince had a difficult childhood during the civil war in Sierra Leone. Since then, however, she has had a brilliant career in the world of ballet. DePrince was previously the youngest ever to join the Dance Theatre of Harlem and has also danced with the Dutch National Ballet. Since 2016, she has been a Goodwill Ambassador for the organization War Child. Her boyfriend Franz is played by Brazilian dancer Daniel Camargo, who also has a background with the Dutch National Ballet. Camargo is now part of the Hong Kong Ballet troupe. One cannot help but be completely absorbed by this beautiful fantasy” – Screen Daily
