Carla's Song is the first collaboration between director Ken Loach and screenwriter Paul Laverty – a collaboration that now spans fifteen feature films and short films, including My Name Is Joe and I, Daniel Blake. The film tells the story of George (Robert Carlyle, Trainspotting), a bus driver from Glasgow, and Carla (Oyanka Cabezas), a refugee from Nicaragua. Set in 1987, the film follows the couple as they meet, fall in love, and travel to Nicaragua to search for Carla's former lover, who may have fallen victim to the civil war.
