College student Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan) returns to his small American town when his father falls ill. During a walk in the idyllic surroundings, he finds a severed ear. He takes the ear to the police and also meets his old friend Sandy (Laura Dern), the daughter of the police investigator. She tells him about the ear case and that it seems to be connected to a mysterious nightclub singer named Dorothy Vallens (Isabella Rossellini). Together, they decide to try to find out more about the case and spy on Dorothy. But it's not that simple. Suddenly, they find themselves caught up in a vicious and depraved whirlwind of sex, violence, and anxiety, led by the dangerous and unpredictable Frank (Dennis Hopper) and his gang of equally strange characters. David Lynch's masterpiece has become iconic for the director and artist's use of symbolism and suggestive elements. The film has won over twenty awards, ranging from Best Director, Best Cinematography, and Best Screenplay to several for the charismatic performances of Dennis Hopper and Isabella Rossellini, and was also nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe.
