When a home-made sex tape is posted online in an unguarded moment, it creates enormous problems for teacher Emi. After being hit by the news, she navigates a Bucharest that has become even more chaotic and inhospitable during the pandemic and tries to sort out the situation. But the guardians of morality want something else, and soon she finds herself the focus of a merciless public tribunal consisting of angry parents, her own colleagues, and "committed citizens." The farcical trial naturally takes place outdoors under strict social distancing protocols. Emi is determined not to bow to society's strangely selective moralizing without a fight!
Productive director Radu Jude (Aferim!,I Do Not Care If We Go Down in History as Barbarians) takes aim once again at human folly, double standards, and other things that make life, if not worth living, then at least laughable. The result is a broad and relentless satire not only on our pandemic-stricken present, but on so-called civilization as a whole.
