Apache Limited Edition Blu-Ray
Famous American director Robert Aldrich is perhaps best known for his iconic film noir Kiss Me Deadly, his disturbing psychological horror film What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? and his action-packed war film The Dirty Dozen, but he was also a skilled director of Westerns. Among his best films are Vera Cruz, The Last Sunset, and his very first attempt at the genre: Apache, starring Burt Lancaster.
After Geronimo (Monte Blue) surrenders to the US Cavalry, Massai (Lancaster) becomes the last remaining Apache warrior. After being captured by the US military and put in prison to be forcibly relocated to a reservation in Florida, all seems lost. But Massai manages to escape from his captors and sets out to return home, where he hopes to settle down with Nalinle (Jean Peters) and farm the land. But as the frontier shrinks with each passing day, returning to his homeland will not be so easy.
Aldrich's first western film is one of the earliest westerns with a sympathetic Native American protagonist fighting against the white settlers who swept across the United States in the 19th century, and is a milestone in the history of the genre. The Masters of Cinema series is proud to present Apache for the first time on Blu-ray in the UK.
