Anchoress DVD
A film by Chris Newby
Christopher Eccleston, Pete Postlewaite, and Toyah Willcox star in this sensual tale of religious conflict, in which a young girl's transcendental vision threatens to disrupt the foundations of her community.p>
Inspired by records of the real Anchoress of Shere, who voluntarily walled herself up in a small cell adjoining a church, the film vividly brings to life a remote medieval village and explores the divide between patriarchal power and female rebellion.p>
With exquisite cinematography by Michel Baudour, the film has been remastered for this release from the original negative under the direction of director Chris Newby (Madagascar Skin).
