HUMPHREY BOGART KATHERINE HEPBURN
A FILM BY JOHN HUSTON
In one of history's most controversial adventure films, we are treated to a sparkling encounter between Hollywood giants Katherine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart. Hepburn plays the prim missionary Rose, who is fleeing from the Germans in the Belgian Congo during World War I. Bogart is the unkempt, gin-swilling skipper Charlie, who lets Rose accompany him on his battered old schooner, the "Queen of Africa." The meeting between the unlikely pair is tense, almost explosive, but they are forced to work together to survive the perilous journey through giant crocodiles, leeches, huge waterfalls, and German machine gun fire.
Bogart was awarded an Oscar for his legendary role. Hepburn was nominated, but did not win a statuette this time. However, she could console herself with winning four other Oscars during her career. That's a record for an actor today! John Huston's direction and Huston & James Agee's screenplay were also honored with nominations. **** "A DELIGHT! VERY ENTERTAINING" Expressen
